1 Jericho forsothe was closid and waardid,
for drede of the sones of Irael, and no
man dorst goo in, or goo out.
2 And the
Lord seide to Josue, Loo, Y haue &yogh;eue
into thin hoondis Jericho, and the kyng
of it, and alle the stronge men.
3 Gooth
about the cytee, alle &yogh;e fi&yogh;ters, to gidre
bi the day; so &yogh;e shulen do six days.
4 Forsothe
the seuenthe day the prestis shulen
taak seuen trompes, whos vse is in
the iubile; and go thei before the arke
of the boond of pees; and seuen sithis
&yogh;e shulen goo about the cyte, and the
prestis shulen crye with the trompes.
5 And whanne the voyce of the trompe
lenger and thicker ful sowneth, and in
&yogh;oure eeris braggith, al the puple shal
crye with moost out crye; and the wallis
of the cyte shulen fuldoun falle, and eche
shal goon in bi the place, a&yogh;ens the which
thei stoden.
6 Josue thanne, the sone of
Nun, clepide the prestis, and seide to
hem, Taak &yogh;e the arke of the boond of
pees, and seuen other prestis taak thei
seuen trompes of the iubilees, and goo
thei before the arke of the Lord.
7 Forsothe
to the puple he seith, Gooth, and
enuyrowneth the cite, aarmed goynge before
the arke of the Lord.
8 And whanne
Josue hadde eendid the wordis, and seuen
preestis with seuen trompes crieden before
the arke of the boond of pees of the
Lord,
9 and al the puple aarmed wente before,
the left comouns folowid the arke,

and with trompes alle thingis thei sowneden.
10 Forsothe Josue comaundide to the
puple, seiynge, &YOGH;e shulen not crye, ne
shal be herd &yogh;oure voyce, ne eny word
of &yogh;oure mouth shal goon out, to the tyme
that the day come, in the which Y schal
seye to &yogh;ow, Crieth, and with an out
voyce crieth.
11 Thanne the arke of the
Lord enuyrounde `the cyte onys bi day,
and turned a&yogh;en into the tentis dwellide
there.
12 Thanne Josue rysynge fro ny&yogh;t,
the preestys token the arke of the Lord;
and seuen of hem seuen trompes,
13 of the
whiche vse is in the iubilee; and thei
wenten before the arke of the Lord, goynge
and trompynge; and the puple
armed wente before hem. Forsothe that
other comouns folwide the arke, and with
trompis sownede.
14 And thei wenten aboute
the citee the secounde day onys, and
turneden a&yogh;en into the tentis; so thei
diden sixe days.
15 Forsothe the seuenthe
day eerly rysynge wenten about the cytee,
as it was disposid, seuen sithes.
16 And
whanne the seuenthe goynge about the
prestis cryeden with trompes, Josue seyde
to al Yrael, With an out voice crie &yogh;e;
forsothe the Lord hath taak to vs the
citee;
17 and be this cyte cursid, and alle
thingis that in it ben to the Lord. Alone
Raab the strompet lyue, with alle that
with hir in hows ben; forsothe she hidde
messangeris `the whiche we senten.
18 &YOGH;e forsothe beth war, lest of thes thingis
that ben comaundid eny thing &yogh;e towchen,
and ben gilti of trespasse; and alle the
tentes of Yrael be vndur synne, and distourblid.
19 Forsothe what euer thing of
gold and of siluer were, and of brasen
vesselis, and of yren, to the Lord be it
halowid, put vp in the tresours of hym.
20 Thanne al the puple criynge out, and
criynge the trumpis, after that into the

eeris of the multitude the sown braggide,
the wallis anoon fellen down; and echon
styeden vp bi the place that a&yogh;ens hem
was.
21 And thei token the cytee, and
slewen alle that weren in it, fro man
vnto womman, fro &yogh;onge vnto oold; forsothe
oxen, and sheep, and assis, in mouth
of the swerd thei smyten.
22 To the two
men forsothe, that aspiers weren sente,
seide Josue, Gooth into the hows of the
womman strompet, and brynge hir forth,
and alle that ben of hir, as to hir bi ooth
&yogh;e han stedefastly seide.
23 And the &yogh;onge
goon yn, ladden out Raab, and hir eldris,
bretheren forsothe, and al purtenaunce to
houshold, and al the kynrede of hir; and
out of the tentis of Yrael thei maden to
dwelle.
24 Forsothe the cyte, and al that
were foundun in it, thei brenten, with
outen the gold, and siluer, and brasen
vessels, and yren, `the whiche into the
tresory of the Lord thei sacriden.
25 Forsothe
Raab strompet, and the hows of
hir fader, and al that she hadde, Josue
made to lyue; and thei dwelten in the
myddil of Irael, vnto the present day;
forthi that she hidde the messangers, `the
whiche he hadde sent for to aspie Jerycho.
In that tyme Josue curside, seiynge,
Cursid the man before the Lord,

that rerith vp or bildith Jericho cyte! In
his first goten ligge he the foundementis
of it, and in the last of the free children
putte he the &yogh;atis of it.
27 Was thanne the
Lord with Josue, and the name of hym
is pupplishid in al the loond.
