1 And the Lord spak to Moyses in the
mownt of Synay,
2 seiynge, Spek to the
sones of Yrael, and thow shalt seye to
hem, Whanne &yogh;e weren in goon into the
loond that I shal &yogh;yue to &yogh;ow, `halowe &yogh;e
the holiday of the Lord;
3 six &yogh;eer thow
shalt sowe thi feelde, and six &yogh;eer thou
shalt kytte thi vyn, and geder the fruytis
of it;
4 the seuenthe forsothe &yogh;eer of the
loond shal be the saboth of the restynge
of the Lord; feelde thow shalt not sowe,
and vyn thow shalt not kitte,
5 thingis
that the erthe frely bryngith forth thow
shalt not reepe, and grapes of thi first
fruytis and vyndage thou shalt not gedere;
the &yogh;eer forsothe it is of the restynge
of the loond;
6 but thei shulen be to

&yogh;ow into meet, to thee, and to thi seruauntis,
to thin handmayde, and to thin
hyryd man, and to the comlyng that pilgrimagith
anentis thee;
7 to hous beestis
and thi feelde beestes, alle thingis that

shalt noumbre to thee seuen wekes of
&yogh;eerys, that is, seuen sithes seuen, the
whiche togidere maken nyn and fourty
&yogh;eer;
9 and thow shalt sowne with trompe
the seuenthe moneth, the tenthe day of
the moneth, in the tyme of doyng mercy,
in al &yogh;oure loond.
10 And thow shalt halowe
the fyftith &yogh;eer, and clepe it for&yogh;ifnesse to
alle the dwellers of thi loond; he is forsothe
the iubilee; a man shal turne a&yogh;en
to his possessioun, and eche shal turne
a&yogh;en to his before hadde meyne,
11 for the
iubilee it is, and the fyftethe &yogh;eer. &YOGH;e
shulen not sowe, ne reepe the free growynge
thingis in the feelde, and the first
fruytis of the vyndage &yogh;e shulen not gedere,
for the halowynge of the iubile;

but anone offryd &yogh;e shulen eete;
13 the &yogh;eer
of iubilee alle goo thei a&yogh;en to her possessiouns.
14 Whanne thow shalt selle eny
thing to thi cyteseyn, other bigge of hym,
ne peire thow thi brothir, but aftir the
noumbre of the &yogh;eeris of iubilee thow
shalt bigge of hym,
15 and after the noumbre
of fruytis he shal selle to thee.
16 As
myche as mo &yogh;eeris dwellen after the iubilee,
so myche and the prijs shal creese,
and as myche as lasse of tyme thow shalt
nowmbre, so myche lasse and the biggynge
shal coste; the tyme forsothe of
fruytis he shal selle to thee.
17 Nyle &yogh;e
wrongfully traueyl &yogh;oure men of o lynage,
but echon drede his God; for Y the Lord
&yogh;oure God.
18 Do &yogh;e myn heestis and domes,
kepith and fulfille &yogh;e hem, that &yogh;e mowen
dwelle in the loond with outen eny drede,
19 and the erthe brynge forth to &yogh;ow his
fruytis, the whiche &yogh;e eten vnto fulfillynge,

dredynge the feersnes of no man.
And if &yogh;e seyn,
20 what shulen we eete the
seuenthe &yogh;eer, if we sowen not, ne gadren
oure fruytis?
21 Y shal &yogh;yue my blessynge
to &yogh;ou the sixte &yogh;eer, and it shal
make the fruytis of three &yogh;eer;
22 and &yogh;e
shulen sowe the ei&yogh;tthe &yogh;eer, and &yogh;e shulen
eete oolde fruytes vnto the nynthe &yogh;eer;
to the tyme that newe be growen &yogh;e shulen
eete oolde.
23 The loond forsothe shal
not be solde `in to with outen ende, for
myn it is, and &yogh;e comlingis and myn
erthe tyliers ben;
24 wherfor al the regioun
of &yogh;oure possessioun vndur condicioun of
a&yogh;enbiggyng shal be solde.
25 If thi brother
maad pore, selle his litil possessioun,
and he wole, the nygh kyn of hym may
a&yogh;enbigge that that he solde;
26 if forsothe
he haue noon nei&yogh;bore, and he mowe fynde
the pryse to a&yogh;enbigge,
27 the fruytis shulen
be countid fro that tyme that he solde,
and that that is laft &yogh;eelde he to the
bigger, and so he shal resseyue his possessyoun.
28 And if his hoond fynde not,
that he &yogh;eelde the prijs, the bigger shal
haue that he bou&yogh;te, vnto the iubilee &yogh;eer;
in that forsothe &yogh;eer al biggyng shal
turne a&yogh;en to the lord, and to the rather
hauer.
29 Who sellith his hows, with ynne
the walles of the cytee, he shal haue leue
of biggynge a&yogh;en to the tyme that o &yogh;eer
be fulfillid;
30 and if he bigge not a&yogh;en, and
the cercle of the &yogh;eer were ouer caste, the
bigger shal welde it, and his aftercomers
into with outen ende, and it may not be
bou&yogh;t a&yogh;en, also in the iubilee.
31 If forsothe
in a town that hath no wallis were
the hows, thur&yogh; ri&yogh;t of the feeldes it shal
be sold; if forsothe it were not a&yogh;enbou&yogh;t
in the iubilee, it shal turne a&yogh;en to his
lord.
32 The hows of the Leuytes, that ben
in the cytees, euermore mowen be a&yogh;enbou&yogh;t;
if thei weren not a&yogh;enbou&yogh;t,
33 in
the iubilee thei shulen turne a&yogh;en to the

lordes; for the houses of cytees of Leuytes
ben for the possessiouns among the
sones of Yrael;
34 the suburbes forsothe of
hem thei shulen not selle, for euerlastynge
possessioun it is.
35 If thi brother
were maad pore, and feble in hoond, and
thow resseyuest hym as a comlyng and a
pilgrym,
36 and lyueth with thee, ne take
thow of hym vsurys, ne more ouer than
thow hast &yogh;ouun; dreed thi God, that thi
brother mowe lyue anentis thee.
37 Thi
money thow shalt not &yogh;yue to him to
vsure, and of the fruytes ouer aboundaunce
thou shal not axe;
38 Y the Lord
&yogh;our God, that haue ladde &yogh;ou out of the
lond of Egipte, that I &yogh;yue &yogh;ow the loond
of Chanaan, and that Y were &yogh;oure God.
39 If thur&yogh; porenesse compellid, thi brother
selle hym silf to thee, thow shalt not oppresse
hym thur&yogh; thraldom of seruauntis,
40 but as an hiryd man and a dweller he
shal be; vnto the iubilee &yogh;eer he shal
worche anentis thee,
41 and aftirward he
shal goo out with his free children, and
turne a&yogh;en to the kyn, and to the possessioun
of his fadres.
42 Forsothe thei ben my
seruauntis, and Y haue ladde hem out of
the loond of Egipte; thei shulen not be
sold bi condiciouns of thralles;
43 ne ouer
traueyle thou him bi thi power, but
drede thow thi Lord.
44 Thral and `boond
womman ben to &yogh;ow of the naciouns that
ben in &yogh;oure enuyroun,
45 and of the comlynges
that pilgrimagen anentis &yogh;ow,
other that of hem weren bore in &yogh;oure
loond; thes &yogh;e shulen haue seruauntis,
46 and thur&yogh; ri&yogh;t of erytage &yogh;e shulen ouerleeuen
hem to the after comers, and &yogh;e
shulen welde hem with outen ende; &yogh;oure

fadres brother, and the fader brother
sone, and the cosyn, and the alye. If

tyme of his sillynge vnto the iubilee &yogh;eer;
and the money with the which he was
soold, after the noumbre of &yogh;eeris, and
thur&yogh; resoun of an hirid man rekened.
51 If
there were many &yogh;eris that leeuen vnto
the iubilee, and after that he shal &yogh;eelde
the prijs;
52 if fewe, he shal leye resoun
with hym after the noumbre of &yogh;eeres;
53 and he shal &yogh;eelde to the bigger that
that is laft of the &yogh;eeris, in the whiche
before he seruede, the medis with ynne
rekenyd; he shal not traueil hym violentlich
in thi si&yogh;t.
54 And if bi that he
may not be a&yogh;eynbou&yogh;t, the iubilee &yogh;eer
he shall goon out with his free children;
55 myn forsothe seruauntis ben the sones of
Yrael, the whiche Y haue ladde out of
the loond of Egipte; I the Lord &yogh;oure
God.
