     1   O praise the Lord. note

  When Israel came out of Egypt,
    Jacob from a people of outlandish speech,
   2   Judah became his sanctuary,
    Israel his dominion.
   3   The sea looked and ran away;
    Jordan turned back.
   4   The mountains skipped like rams,
    the hills like young sheep.
   5   What was it, sea? Why did you run?
    Jordan, why did you turn back?
   6   Why, mountains, did you skip like rams,
    and you, hills, like young sheep?
   7   Dance, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
    at the presence of the God of Jacob,
   8   who turned the rock into a pool of water,
    the granite cliff into a fountain.
