LETTER LIV. HARRINGTON to WORTHY. BOSTON.

[figure description] Page 125.[end figure description]

All the &longs;cenes of my pa&longs;t life return
fre&longs;h upon my memory. I examine
every circum&longs;tance as they pa&longs;s in review before

di&longs;tance that &longs;eparates us? What labour—
what toil—what pain mu&longs;t be endured in
traver&longs;ing the thorny paths that lead to her
ble&longs;&longs;ed abode?—And will &longs;he not receive me
into tho&longs;e happy regions with as much joy—
with as &longs;incere a welcome—if I cut &longs;hort my
journey?—And will not the Eternal Dispenser
of Good, pardon the awful deed that frees
me from this world of mi&longs;ery—the deed by
which I obtrude my&longs;elf into his divine presence?

WHY mu&longs;t I wait the lingering hand of
the grifly me&longs;&longs;enger to &longs;ummon me to the
world above?
