1   And it is doon after the deth of Moyses, the seruaunt of the Lord, that the Lord spak to Josue, the sone of Nun, the seruaunt of Moyses, and seide to hym, Moyses, 2   my seruaunt, is deed; rise, and

passe ouer this Jordan, thow, and al the puple with thee, into the loond that Y shal &yogh;yue to the sones of Yrael. 3   Eche place that the stap of &yogh;oure foot shal treed, to &yogh;ow Y shal taak, as Y spak to Moyses, 4   fro `deseert and Libane and vnto the greet flood of Effrates; al the loond of Etheus, vnto the greet see a&yogh;ens the sunne goynge doun, shal be &yogh;oure teerme. 5   Noon shal mowe to &yogh;ow to a&yogh;enstoond alle the dais of thi lijf; as Y was with Moyses, so Y shal be with thee; Y shal not leeue, ne forsaak thee. 6   Tak coumfort, and be strong; forsothe thow shalt dyuyde bi lot to this puple the loond, for the which Y haue swore to thi faders, that Y take it to hem. 7   Take coumfort therfor, and be ful strong, that thow keep, and doo al the lawe, that Moyses, my seruaunt, hath comaundid to thee; ne bowe thow aside fro it to the ry&yogh;t or to the left, that thow vnderstoond alle thingis that thow dost. 8   The volym of this law goo not awey fro thi mouth, but thow shalt deuowtly think in it days and ny&yogh;tis, that thow kepe and do alle thingis that ben wryten in it; thanne thow shalt make redi thi weie, and vnderstoond it. 9   I comaunde to thee; tak coumfort, and be strong; wole thow not drede, and wole thow not be feerd; for with thee is the Lord thi God in alle thingis, to what euere thingis thow shalt goo. 10   And Josue comaundide to the pryncis of the puple, seiynge, Goo &yogh;e bi the myddil of the tentis; and comaunde &yogh;e to the puple, and seye &yogh;e, 11   Make &yogh;e redi to &yogh;ou meetis, for after the thridde day &yogh;e shulen passse ouer Jordan, and goo into the loond to be weeldid, that the Lord &yogh;oure God is to &yogh;yue to &yogh;ow. 12   Forsothe to Rubenytis, and Gaddytis, and to the half lynage of Manasse he seith, 13   Haue mynde of the word that comaundide to &yogh;ow Moises, the seruaunt of the Lord, seiynge, The Lord &yogh;oure God hath &yogh;yue to &yogh;ow rest and

al the loond; 14   &yogh;oure wyues and &yogh;oure children and beestis shulen dwelle in the loond that Moyses hath taak to &yogh;ow bi&yogh;onde Jordan; &yogh;e forsothe passith armed before &yogh;oure bretheren, alle the stronge men in hoond; 15   and fi&yogh;te &yogh;e for hem, to the tyme that the Lord &yogh;yue rest to &yogh;oure britheren, as and to &yogh;ow he hath &yogh;eue; and that thei forsothe weelden the loond that the Lord &yogh;oure God is to &yogh;yue to hem; and so &yogh;e shulen turn a&yogh;en into the loond of &yogh;oure possessyoun, and &yogh;e shulen dwelle in it, that to &yogh;ow hath &yogh;euen Moises, the seruaunt of the Lord, bi&yogh;ond Jordan, a&yogh;ens the risynge of the sunne. 16   And thei answerden to Josue, and seiden, Alle thingis that thow hast comaundid to vs we shulen doo, and whidir euer thow seendist, we shulen goo; 17   as we han obeishid in alle thingis to Moises, so and we shulen obeyshe to thee; oneli the Lord thi God be with thee, as he was with Moyses. 18   Who a&yogh;en seith to thi mouth, and obeishith not to alle the wordis, `the whiche thow hast comaundid to hym, dye he; thou oonly tak coumfort, and do manlych.
