1 And I si&yogh;e newe heuen and newe erthe;
forsothe the first heuen and the first erthe
wenten awey, and `now is not the se.
2 And I Joon si&yogh;e the holy citee Jerusalem,
newe, comynge doun fro heuen `of God,
maad redy as a wijf ourned to hir husbonde.
3 And I herde a greet voys of the
trone, seiynge, Lo! the tabernacle of God
with men, and he shal dwelle with hem;
and thei shulen be his puple, and he God
with hem shal be her God.
4 And God shal
wijpe awey ech teer fro i&yogh;en of seyntis;
and deeth shal no more be, nether moornyng,
nether criyng, nether sorowe shal be
ouer; the whiche firste thinges wenten
awey.
5 And he seide, that sat in the trone,
Lo! I make alle thinges newe. And he
seide to me, Wrijte thou, for thes wordes
ben moost feithful and trewe.
6 And he
seide to me, It is don; I am alpha and oo,
the bigynnyng and ende. I shal &yogh;iue
frely `to the thirstinge of the welle of
quyk watir.
7 He that shal ouercome, shal
weelde thes thinges; and I shal be God to
him, and he shal be sone to me.
8 Forsothe
to proude men, and vnbileueful, and cursid,
and manquellers, and fornicatours, and
to men doynge venym, or sleynge men
by venym, and worschipers of ydolis, and
to alle li&yogh;ers, the paart of hem shal be
in the pool brennynge with fijr and brunston,
that is the secounde deeth.
9 And
one cam of the seuen aungels, hauynge

violes ful of seuen the laste plagis. And
he spake with me, seiynge, Come thou,
I shal shewe to thee the spouse, wijf
of the lomb.
10 And he toke me up in
spirit in to a greet hil and hi&yogh;; and he
shewide to me the holy citee Jerusalem,
comynge doun fro heuen of God,
11 hauynge
the cleerte of God; and the li&yogh;t of it lijk
to a precious stoon, as to the stoon iaspis,
as cristal.
12 And it hadde a wal greet and
hi&yogh;, hauynge twelue &yogh;ates, and in the
&yogh;atis of it twelue aungels, and names
writun in, that ben the names of the
twelue lynagis of the sones of Yrael;
fro the eest thre &yogh;ates,
13 and fro the north
thre &yogh;ates, and fro the south thre &yogh;ates,
and fro the west thre &yogh;ates.
14 And the wal
of the citee hauynge twelue foundementes,
and in hem the names of the
twelue apostlis, and of the lomb.
15 And he
that spake with me, hadde a golden mesure
of a reed, that he shulde mete the
citee, and the &yogh;ates of it, and the wal.
16 And the citee is `put in square; and the
lengthe `of it is so miche, hou miche
and the breede. And he mat the citee
of the reed, bi furlongis twelue thousyndes.
And the hi&yogh;the, and lengthe, and
breede of it, ben euen.
17 And he mat the
walles `of it, of an hundrid and foure
and fourty cubytis, bi mesure of man,
that is, of aungel.
18 And the bildyng of
the wal was of stoon iaspis. Sotheli the
citee it silf was of cleene gold, lijk to
cleene glas.
19 And the foundementes of
the wal of the citee ourned with al
precious stoon. The first foundement, iaspis;
the secounde, saphirus; the thridde,
calcedonyus; the fourthe, smaragdus;
the fyuethe,
20 sardonix; the sixte, sardius;
the seuenthe, crisolitus; the ei&yogh;the,

berillus; the nynthe, topasius; the
tenthe, crisopassus; the eleuenthe, iacinctus;
the tweluthe, ametistus.
21 And
twelue &yogh;ates twelue margarites ben, by
ech; and eche `&yogh;ates weren of eche margaritis.
And the stretes of the citee clene
gold, as glas ful shijnynge.
22 And I si&yogh;e
no temple in it, forsothe Lord God almi&yogh;ty
is temple of it, `and the lomb.
23 And the citee hath no nede of sunne, nether
moone, that thei shijne in it; forwhi
the cleerte of God shal li&yogh;ten it, and the
lomb is the lantern of it.
24 And folkes shulen
walke in li&yogh;t of it; and the kinges of
erthe shulen bringe to her glory and
honour in to it.
25 And the &yogh;ates of it
shulen not be closid bi daye; sotheli ni&yogh;t
shal not be there.
26 And thei shulen bringe
to the glory and honour of folkis in to
it.
27 Nethir ony thing defoulid shal entre
in to it, `and doynge abhomynacioun and
lesyng; no but thei that ben writun in
the book of lijf and of the lomb.
