1   And Moyses clepide al Yrael, and seide to hym, Here, Yrael, cerymoyns, and domys, that I speke in &yogh;oure eris to day; lerne &yogh;e hem, and fulfillith in dede. 2   The Lord oure God hath couenauntid with vs a boond of pees in Oreb; 3   not with oure fadres he made couenaunt, but with vs, that nowe ben, and lyuen. 4   Face to face he hath spoke to vs in the hil, fro the myddil of fier. 5   I felawe and meene was bitwix God and &yogh;ow in that tyme, that I tolde to &yogh;ow the wordis of hym; forsothe &yogh;e dreden the fier, and &yogh;e stieden not into the hil. 6   And he seith, I the Lord thi God, that haue ladde thee out of the loond of Egipte, fro the hows of seruage. 7   Thow shalt not haue alyen goddis in my si&yogh;t. 8   Thow shalt not make to thee grauen thing, ne liknes of alle thingis that in heuen ben aboue, and that in erthe bynethe, and that dwellen in watres vndur erthe; 9   thow shalt not honoure hem, ne herye; forsothe I am the Lord thi God, a ielouse God, &yogh;eeldynge wickidnes of fadres into sones, into the thridde and the ferthe generacioun to hem that hatiden me, 10   and doynge mercy into many thowsandes to hem that louen me, and kepen myn heestes. 11   Thow shalt not mystaak the name of the Lord thi God idillich, for he shal not be vnpunyshid, that vpon veyn thing the name of hym takith. 12   Kepith the day of the saboth, that thow halwe it, as the Lord thi God hath comaundid to thee. 13   Six dayes thow shalt worche, and doo alle thi werkis; 14   the seuenthe day is of the saboth, that is the rest of the Lord thi God. Thow shalt not doo in it eny thing of werke, thow, and thi sone, and dow&yogh;ter, seruaunt, and handmayden, and oxe,

And thow shalt doo no theft. 20   Thou shalt not speke a&yogh;ens thi nei&yogh;bore fals witnes. 21   Thow shalt not coueyte the wijf of thi nei&yogh;bour, ne hows, ne feelde, ne seruaunt, ne handmayde, ne oxe, ne asse, and alle thingis that of hym ben. 22   Thes wordes the Lord spak to al oure multitude, in the hil, of the myddel of fier and clowde and derknesse, with a greet voyce, no thinge addinge more ouer; and he wroot hem in two stonen tablis, that he took to me. 23   &YOGH;e forsothe, after that &yogh;e herden a voice fro the myddel of derknessis, and that &yogh;e seen the hil to brenne, &yogh;e comen to me alle the princes of the lynages, and the more thur&yogh; birthe, and seiden, Loo! 24   the Lord oure God hath shewid to vs maieste, and his mychylnesse; the voyce of hym we han herd fro the myddil of the fier, and we han preued to day that thur&yogh; God spekynge with man a man lyueth. 25   Whi thanne shulen we die, and shal deuowre vs this moost fier? Forsothe if we heren more the voice of the Lord oure God, we shulen

die. 26   What is al flesh, that he here the voice of God lyuynge, that fro the myddil of fier spekith, as we han herd, and my&yogh;ten lyue? 27   Thow more goo ni&yogh;, and here alle thingis that the Lord oure God shal seye to thee; and thow shalt speke to vs, and we herynge shal doon hem. 28   The which thing whanne the Lord hadde herd, seith to me, I haue herd the voys of the wordes of this puple, that thei han spokun to thee; wel alle thingis thei han spokun. 29   Who &yogh;yueth hem siche thou&yogh;t to haue, that thei dreden me, and kepen alle my maundementis in al tyme, that wel it be to hem, and to the sones of hem, into with outen ende? 30   Go, and sey to hem, Turneth a&yogh;en into &yogh;oure tentis. 31   Forsothe thow stoond here with me, and I shal speke to thee al the maundementis, and ceremoyns, and domes, that thow shalt teche hem, that thei doon hem in the loond that Y shal &yogh;eue to hem into possessioun. 32   Kepe &yogh;e therfore, and doth hem, `the whiche the Lord God hath comaundid to &yogh;ow; &yogh;e shulen not bowe aside, 33   ne to the ry&yogh;t, ne to the left, but bi the weie that the Lord &yogh;oure God hath comaundid, &yogh;e shulen goo, that &yogh;e lyuen, and wel be to &yogh;ow, and &yogh;oure daies ben drawun along in the loond of &yogh;oure possessyoun.
