And `maundement takyn of him to Silas and Tymothe, that ful hi&yogh;yngli thei schulden come to him, thei wenten forth. 16   Forsoth whanne Poul abood hem at Athenys, his spirit was mouyd in him, seynge the citee &yogh;ouun to ydolatrie. 17   Therfore he disputide in the synagoge with Jewis, and men worschipinge, in the `chepinge, or dom place, bi alle dayes to hem that herden. 18   Forsothe summe Epicureis, and Stoycis, and philosofris disputiden, `or tretiden, with him. And summe seiden, What wole this sowere of wordis seie? Sothli othere seiden, He is seyn for to be a tellere of newe deuelis; for he telde to hem Jhesu, and a&yogh;en rysing. 19   And thei `ledden him takun to Ariopage, that is, comun scole, seyinge, Mown we wite, what is this newe doctryn, that is seid of thee? 20   Sothli thou bringist yn sum newe thingis to oure eeris; therfore we wolen wite, what these thingis wolen be. 21   Sothli alle men of Athenis and comelingis, herborid men, &yogh;auen tent to noon othir thing, no but ethir for to seye, ethir for to heere, ony thing of newe. 22   Forsoth Poul stondinge in the myddel of Areopage, seith, Men of Athenis, bi alle thingis I se &yogh;ou as veyn worschiperis. 23   `Sothli I passinge, and seynge &yogh;oure symulacris, foond and an auter, in which was writun, To vnknowun God. As and summe of &yogh;oure poetis seiden, Sotheli we ben and the kynde of him. 29   Therfore sithen we ben the kynde of God, we schulen not deme, `or gesse, godly thing `for to be lyk to gold, and siluer, or stoon, to grauyng of craft and thou&yogh;t of man. 30   And sotheli God dispisinge the tymes of this vnkunnynge, now schewith to men, that alle euerywhere do penaunce; 31   for that he ordeynede a day, in which he `is to demynge the world in equyte, in a man in which he ordeynede, `feith &yogh;yuynge to alle, reysinge him fro deede men. 32   Sotheli whanne thei `hadden herd the a&yogh;en rysing of deede men, sothli summe scorneden, summe forsothe seiden, We schulen heere thee eft of `this thing. 33   So Poul wente out of the myddil of hem. 34   Forsothe summe cliuynge to him, bileuyden. In the whiche and Dionyse Ariopagite, or greet man of comun scole, and a womman, by name Damaris, and othere men with hem.
