1 And the puple wente forthe fro Asseroth,
pi&yogh;te the tentes in the deseert of
Pharan.
2 And there the Lord spak to
Moyses,
3 seiynge, Seend men that biholden
the loond of Chanaan, that I am to &yogh;yuynge
the sones of Yrael, eche of eche
lynagis, of the princes.
4 And Moyses
dide that the Lord hadde comaundid, fro
the deseert of Pharan seendynge men
princes,
5 of whom thes ben the names.
Of the lynage of Ruben, Semmya, the
sone of Zeccur.
6 Of the linage of Symeon,
Saphat, the sone of Hury.
7 Of the
lynage of Juda, Caleph, the sone of Jephone.
8 Of the lynage of Ysachar, Agal,
the sone of Joseph.
9 Of the lynage of
Effraym, Osee, the sone of Nun.
10 Of the
lynage of Beniamyn, Phalti, the sone of
Raphu.
11 Of the lynage of Zabulon, Gedihel,
the sone of Sody.
12 Of the lynage of
Joseph, Gaddi, of the septre of Manasse,
the sone of Susy.
13 Of the lynage of Dan,
Ammyhel, the sone of Gemalli.
14 Of the
lynage of Aser, Sur, the sone of Mychael.
15 Of the lynage of Neptalym, Nabdi, the
sone of Naphi.
16 Of the lynage of Gad,
Guhel, the sone of Machi.
17 Thes ben the
names of the men, the whiche Moyses
sent to biholde the loond of Chanaan;
and he clepide Osee, the sone of Nun,
Josue.
18 Thanne Moyses sente hem to biholde
the loond of Chanaan, and seyde
to hem, Stye &yogh;e vp bi the sowth plage;

and whanne &yogh;e come into the hillis,
19 beholde
&yogh;e the loond, what it is; and the
puple that is dweller of it, whethir it be
stronge, or feble, fewe in noumbre, or
many;
20 that loond, good, or yuel; what
maner citees, wallid, or with outen wallis;
the erthe,
21 fat, or bareyn, wodi, or with
outen trees. Be &yogh;e comfortyd, and brynge
&yogh;e to vs of the fruytis of that loond. It
was forsothe tyme, whanne now the before
rijp grapes my&yogh;te be eete.
22 And
whanne thei steyden vp, thei enserchiden
the loond, fro the deseert of Syn vnto
Rohob, hem entrynge Emath.
23 And thei
styeden vp to the sowth, and camen into
Ebron, where weren Achyman, and Sisay,
and Tholmay, the sone of Enath;
forsothe Ebron seuen &yogh;eris before Thannyn,
the cytee of Egipte, is maad.
24 And
thei goynge vnto the rennynge watir of
the clustre, kyttiden a vyn with his
grape, the which two men beeren in a
staf; of the powmgarnettis forsothe, and
of the figis of that place thei token,
25 the
which is clepid Nehelescol, that is, the
rennynge water of the clustre, for thi that
the children of Yrael brou&yogh;ten thens a
clustre.
26 And the spiers of the loond
turneden aftir fourti days, al the regioun
goon about,
27 thei camen to Moyses, and
to Aaron, and to al the companye of the
sones of Yrael, into deseert of Pharan
that is in Cades. And thei speken to hem,
and to al the multitude thei shewiden
the fruytis of the loond.
28 And thei tolden,
seiynge, We camen to the loond, to the
which &yogh;e senten vs, the whiche forsothe
flowith mylk and hony, as of thes fruytis
it may be knowe;
29 but moost stronge
dwellers it hath, and greet citees, and
wallid; the lynage of Enachym we han
seen there;
30 Amalech dwellith in the

sowth; Etheus, and Jebuzeus, and Amorreus
in the mownteyns; Chananeus forsothe
dwellith biside the see, and about
the flodis of Jordan.
31 Amonge thes thingis
Caleph swagynge the grucchynge of the
puple, that spronge a&yogh;ens Moyses, seith,
Stie we vp, and weeld we this loond, for
we mowen gete it.
32 Other forsothe that
weren with hym, seiden, Nay, to this
puple we ben not my&yogh;ti to stye vp, for
strenger than we he is.
33 And thei mysseiden
of the loond that thei bihelden,
anentis the sones of Yrael, seiynge, The
loond that we han passid deuowrith his
dwellers; the puple the which we han
biholde is of huge stature;
34 there we seyen
thingis passynge the course of kynde, of
the sones of Enach, of the kynde of geauntis,
to whiche comparysound as locustis
we weren seen.
