1   And the twelue disciplis clepid to gidre, he &yogh;aue to hem power of vnclene spiritis, that thei shulde casten hem out, and that thei shulden heele al ache, and al siknesse. 2   These ben the names of twelue apostelis; the first, Symoun, that is clepid Petre, and Andrew, his brother; 3   `Philip, and Bartilmew; Jamys of Zebedee, and Joon, his brother; Thomas, and Matheu puplican; and James Alphei, and Thadee;

Symount Canane, 4   and Judas Scarioth, the whiche betraiede Crist. 5   Jhesus sente these twelue, comaundynge to hem, and sayinge, Goth &yogh;e nat into the wey of heithen men, and `entre &yogh;e nat in to the citees of Samarietanys; 6   but rather goth to the sheep of the hous of Yrael, that perishiden. 7   Sothely &yogh;ee goynge preche, sayinge, for the kyngdam of heuenes shal nei&yogh;e; hele &yogh;e seke men, 8   vpreyse &yogh;ee dead men, clense &yogh;e meselis, `cast &yogh;e out deuelis; frely &yogh;e han taken, frely &yogh;eue &yogh;e. 9   Nyl &yogh;e welden gold, nether syluer, ne money in &yogh;oure girdlis, 10   not a scripe in the weye, nether two cootis, nether shoon, nether &yogh;eerd; for a workman is worthi his mete. 11   In to whateuer citee, or castel, &yogh;e shulen entre, axeth who therinne is worthi, and there `dwelle &yogh;e, til that &yogh;e gon out. 12   Forsothe &yogh;e entrynge in to an house, `grete &yogh;e, `or salute &yogh;ee, it, sayinge, Pees to this hous. 13   And sothely &yogh;if `that ilk hous be worthi, &yogh;oure pees shal cume on it; forsothe &yogh;if that house be nat worthy, &yogh;oure pees shall turne a&yogh;ein to &yogh;ou. 14   And who euere shall nat resceyue &yogh;ou, nether heer &yogh;oure wordis, &yogh;ee goynge forth fro that hous, or citee, smytith awey the dust fro &yogh;oure feet. 15   Trewly I say to &yogh;ou, it shall be more suffreable to the lond of men of Sodom and Gomor in the day of iugement, than to that citee. 16   Loo! I sende &yogh;ou as sheep in to the mydil of wolues; therfore be &yogh;e `war, or wijse before, as serpentis, and symple as dowues. 17   Forsothe be &yogh;e war of men, for thei shuln taken &yogh;ou in counseilis, and thei shuln bete &yogh;ou in there synagogis; 18   and to `presidentis, or meyris, and to kyngis &yogh;e shulen be led for me, in to witnessynge to hem, and hethen men. 19   But whenne thei shulen take,

`or bitraie, &yogh;ou, nyl &yogh;e thenke, how or what thing &yogh;ee speeken, forsothe it shal be &yogh;ouen to &yogh;ou in that hour, what &yogh;e shuln speke; 20   for it ben nat &yogh;e that speken, but the spirit of &yogh;oure fadir, that spekith in &yogh;ou. 21   Sothely the brother shal take the brother in to deth, and the fadir the sone, and the sonys shulen ryse a&yogh;eins fadir and modir, and shulen tourmente hem bi deth. 22   And &yogh;e shulen be in hate to alle men, for my name; forsothe he that shall `dwelle stille in to the eende, this shal be saaf. 23   Sothely whenne thei shulen pursue &yogh;ou in this citee, `flee &yogh;e `in to an other. Trewly I saye to &yogh;ou, &yogh;e shulen nat eende the citees of Yrael, til that mannes sone cume. 24   The disciple is nat aboue the maistre, ne the seruaunt aboue his lord; it is ynow to the disciple, 25   `that he be as his maistre, and to the seruaunt as his lord. &YOGH;if thei han clepid the `husbonde man, `or the fadir of meynee, Belzebub, hou myche more his housholde meynee? 26   Therfore drede &yogh;e nat hem; for no thing is couerid, `or hid, that shal nat be shewid; and no thing is preuy, that shal nat be wist. 27   That thing that Y say to &yogh;ou in dercnessis, saye &yogh;ee in the li&yogh;t; and preche &yogh;e vpon housis, that thing that &yogh;ee heere in ere. 28   And nyl &yogh;e dreede hem that sleen the body; trewly thei mowen nat slea the soule; bot rather dreede &yogh;e hym, that may lese soule and body in to helle. 29   Whether twey sparwis ben not sold for an halpeny? and oon of hem shal nat falle on the erthe withouten &yogh;oure fadir. 30   Forsothe alle the heeris of &yogh;oure heued be noumbrid. 31   Therfore nyle &yogh;e drede; &yogh;e ben better than many sparwis. 32   Therfore euery man that shal knowleche me before men, and I shal knowleche hym byfore my

fadir that is in heuenes. 33   Sothely he that shal denye me bifore men, and I shall deni&yogh;e hym before my fadir whiche is in heuenes. 34   Nyl &yogh;ee deme, that I cam to sende pees in to erthe; I cam not to sende pees `in to erthe, but swerd. 35   Sothely Y cam to departe a man a&yogh;eins his fadir, and the dou&yogh;ter a&yogh;einys hire modir, and the sonys wyf a&yogh;eins the `wyues, or husbondis, modir; 36   and the enmyes of a man ben his homly meynee. 37   He that loueth fadir or modir more than me, is nat `worthi of me. And he that loueth sone or dou&yogh;ter ouer me, is nat worthi of me. 38   And he that takith nat his crosse, and sueth me, is not worthi of me. 39   He that fyndith his soule, that is, temporal lyf, shal leese it; and he that lesith his soule, `that is, lif, for me, shal fynde it. 40   He that resseyueth &yogh;ou, resceyueth me; and he that resceyueth me, resceyueth hym that sente me. 41   And he that resceyueth a prophete in the name of a prophete, shal take the mede of a prophete. And he that resceyueth a iust man in the name of a iust man, shal take the meede of a iust man. 42   And who euer &yogh;iueth drynke to oon of these leste a cuppe of cold water oonly in the name of a disciple, trewly I saye to &yogh;ou, he shal nat leese his mede.
