1   Salomon thanne, the sone of Dauid, is coumfortid in his rewme, and the Lord was with hym, and magnyfiede hym in to an hee&yogh;. 2   And Salomon comaundyde to al Yrael, to leders of thousandis, and maystirs of hundrethis, and to domysmen, and to the duykis of al Yrael, and to princis of meynes; 3   and wente with al the multitude in to the hei&yogh;t of Gabaon, where was the tabernacle of the pese couenaunt of the Lord, that Moyses, the seruaunt of God, made in wyldirnesse. 4   Dauid forsothe hadde lad the arke of God fro Cariathiarym in to the place that he hadde made redi to it, and wher he hadde pi&yogh;t to it a tabernacle, that is, in Jerusalem. 5   Also a brasen auter, the whiche Beseleel, the sone of Vri, sone of Ur, hadde forgid, there was beforn the tabernacle of the Lord; the whiche and Salomon sou&yogh;t and al the chirche. 6   And

Salomon stei&yogh;ede up to the brasen auter, before the tabernacle of the pese couenaunt of the Lord, and offride in it a thousand hoostis. 7   Lo! forsothe in that ny&yogh;t God apeerid to hym, seyinge, Ask that thou wylt, that I &yogh;eue to thee. 8   And Salomon seide to God, Thou didist with Dauith, my fadir, grete mercy, and settist me kyng for hym. 9   Nowe thanne, Lord God, thi word be fulfild, that thou bihi&yogh;tist to Dauid, my fadir; thou forsothe hast made me kyng vpon thi grete puple, the whiche is as vnnoumbreable as the poudre of the erth. 10   &YOGH;eue to me wysdam and vndirstondynge, that I go in and go out beforn thi puple; who forsothe may this thi puple, that is so greet, worthily deemyn? 11   God forsothe seide to Salomon, For this more pleside to thin herte, and askidist not rychesses, and substaunce, and glorie, ne the lijues of hem that hatiden thee, ne many days of lijf; but forsothe thou askidist wisdam and kunnynge, that thou my&yogh;tist deme puple, vpon the whiche I haue sett thee kyng, 12   wisdom and kunnynge ben &yogh;euen to thee; ritchesses forsothe, and substaunces, and glorie I schal &yogh;euen to thee, so that no man in kyngis, ne before thee ne aftir thee, were lijc thee. 13   Than Salomon came fro the hei&yogh;t of Gabaon in to Jerusalem, beforn the tabernacle of the pese couenaunt, and regned vpon Yrael. 14   And he gadirde to hym charis and hors men, and ther ben maad to hym a thousand and foure hundrith chaaris, and twelue thousand of horse men; and he maad hem to ben in the citees of plowes of foure hors, and with the kyng in Jerusalem. 15   And the kyng &yogh;aue in to Jerusalem syluer and gold as stonys, and cedres as long mulberies, that

growen in wijld feeldis in myche multitude. 16   Forsothe ther weren brou&yogh;t to hym hors fro Egipt, and fro Ohoa, of the marchaundis of the kyng, that wenten and bo&yogh;ten bi prijs, 17   a plow&yogh; of hors for sixe hundrith platis of syluer, and an hors for an hundrith and fyfty.
