1 The seuenth &yogh;eer of Hieu regnede
Joas; fourty &yogh;eer he regnede in Jerusalem;
the name of his modir Sebia of
Bersabe.
2 And Joas dyde ri&yogh;t beforn the
Lord alle days, the whiche tau&yogh;te hym
Joiada, the prest.
3 Neuerthelater hee&yogh;e
thingis he dide not aweye; &yogh;it forsothe
the puple offride, and brente encense in
hei&yogh;tis.
4 And Joias seide to the prestis,
Al the monee of seyntis, `the whiche
were brou&yogh;t in to the temple of the Lord
of men passynge, `the whiche is offred
for the synne of the soule, and the whiche
thei bryngen in wilfully, and by dome of
their herte, in to the temple of the Lord,
5 the prestis taken thei it aftir their ordre.
And enstoore thei the coueryngis of the
hous, &yogh;if eny thinge thei seen necessarye
in the restorynge.
6 Thanne vnto the
three and twentithe &yogh;eer of kyng Joas,
the prestis restooreden not the coueryngis
of the temple.
7 And kyng Joas
clepide Joiada, the bischop, and the
prestis, seyinge to hem, Why the coueryngis
&yogh;e restoren not of the temple?
Wille &yogh;e than not no more taken the
monee aftir &yogh;oure ordre, bot to the restooringe
of the temple &yogh;eldith it.
8 And
the prestis ben forfendid to eny more
takyn monee of the puple, and to restoren
the coueryngis of the hous.
9 And
Joiada, the bischop, toke oon tresoringe
place, and he opnede an hoole ther
aboue, and putte it bisyde the auter, at
the ri&yogh;t syde of men commynge in to the
house of the Lord; and the prestis, that

kepten the doris, putten in it al the
monee that was brou&yogh;t to the temple of
the Lord.
10 And when he sau&yogh; to myche
monee to be in the tresorye, a scribe of
the kyngis stey&yogh;ide up, and a byschop,
and thei heelden out, and noumbreden
the monee that was foundun in the hous
of the Lord.
11 And thei &yogh;euen it aftir the
noumbre and mesure in the hond of hem,
that weren before to the masouns of the
hous of the Lord, the whiche &yogh;euen it in
carpentaris, and in thes masouns, that
wrou&yogh;ten in the hous of the Lord,
12 and
the coueryngis maaden; and in hem
that hewyden stonys; and that schulden
byen treese and stonys, the whiche
weren hewen out; so that the enstorynge
of the hous of the Lord were fulfillid
in alle thingis, `the whiche nededen
expensis to the hous to be warnyschid.
13 Neuerthelatre ther weren not maad of
the same monee the stenys of the temple
of the Lord, and the fleschookis, and the
censeris, and the trompis, and all golden
vessel and silueren, of the monee that
was brou&yogh;t in to the temple of the Lord.
14 To thes forsothe that maden werk was
&yogh;euen, that the temple of the Lord were
enstooride.
15 And no reknynge was maad
to tho men that token the monee, that
thei delen it to the craftyse men; bot in
feith thei tretiden it.
16 The monee forsothe
for trespasse, and the monee for
synnes, thei brou&yogh;ten not in to the temple
of the Lord, for it was of prestis.
17 Than
Azael, kyng of Cyrye, stey&yogh;ide up, and
fau&yogh;t a&yogh;eynus Geth; and he took it, and
he dresside his face, that he stey&yogh;e up in
to Jerusalem.
18 For what thing Joas, king
of Juda, took alle the halowed thingis,
`the whiche Josaphath, and Joram, and
Ochosias, hise faders, kyngis of Juda,
hadden sacred, and the whiche he hadde
-- --
offred, and al the syluer and gold, that
my&yogh;t be founden in the tresouries of the
temple of the Lord, and in paleys of the
kyng. And he sente to Azael, the kyng of
Cyrye, and wente aweye fro Jerusalem.
19 The remnaunt forsothe of the wordis of
Joas, and alle thingis that he dyde, whether
thes ben not writen in the book of
the wordis of the days of the kyngis of
Juda?
20 Forsothe his seruauntis rysen,
and coniureden bytwene hemseluen; and
thei smyten Joas in the hous of Mello, in
the goynge doun of Sela.
21 Josafath forsothe,
the sone of Semath, and Joiadath,
the sone of Somer, his seruauntis, smyten
hym, and he is deed; and thei birieden
hym with his faders in the cytee of Dauith;
and Amazias, his sone, regnede for
hym.
