1 Dauid forsothe cam into Nobe to Achymalech
the preest; and Achymalech was
astonyed, forthi that Dauid was comen;
and he roos a&yogh;ens hym, and seide to
hym, Whi thou alone, and no man is
with thee?
2 And Dauid seith to Achymalech
the preest, The kyng comaundide
to me a word, and seide, No man knowe
the thing, for the whych thou art sent
fro me, and what maner heestis I haue
&yogh;ouen to thee; for and to the children
I haue ordeynd also `into that and that
place;
3 nowe thanne if eny thing thou
hast at hoond, or fyue looues, &yogh;if to me, or
what euer thou fyndist.
4 And answerynge
the preest to Dauid seith to hym, I haue
not leeuyd loouys at hoond, but oonli
hooli breed; if cleen be the children,
moost fro wymmen, eete thei.
5 And
Dauyd answerde to the preest, and seide
to hym, Forsothe and if of wymmen it is

askid, we han conteyned vs fro &yogh;isterday
and before &yogh;isterday, whanne we wenten
out, and the vessels of the children
weren holy; forsothe this weye is polute,
but and it to day shal be halowid
in the vessels.
6 Thanne the preest &yogh;af to
hym halwid breed, forsothe ne there was
breed, but oonly loouys of proposicioun,
the whiche weren born a wey fro the
face of the Lord, that there ben set hoot
loouys.
7 Forsothe there was ther a maner
man of the seruauntis of Saul in that day
with ynne in the tabernacle of the Lord;
this fedde the mulis of Saul; and the
name of hym Doech Ydume, moost my&yogh;ti
of the sheepherdis of Saul.
8 Forsothe
Dauyd seide to Achymalech, If thou hast
here at hoond speer, or swerd, &yogh;if to me;
for my swerd and myn aarmys Y took
not with me; forsothe the word of the
kyng constreynede me.
9 And the preest
seyde, Loo! heere the swerd of Goliath
Philistee, whom thou smoot in the valey
of Therebynt, it is wrappid with a pal
after the preestis coope; if this thou wolt
take, tak; forsothe ne here is othere with
outen it. And Dauid seith, There is not
another lijk to this, &yogh;if to me it.
10 And so
Dauid roos, and flei&yogh; in that day fro the
face of Saul, and cam to Achis, the kyng
of Geth.
11 And the seruauntis of Achis
seiden to hym, whanne thei seen Dauid,
Whether not this is Dauid, kyng of the
loond? Whether not to this sungen bi
dauncys seiynge, Saul smoot o thousand,
and Dauid ten thousandis?
12 Forsothe
Dauid putte thes wordis in his herte,
and dredde ful mych fro the face of
Achis, the kyng of Geth.
13 And he
chaungyde hys mouth before Achis, and
he hurlide hidir and thider bitwix the
hoondis of hem, and he a&yogh;en put into

the doris of the &yogh;ate, and his spotils
floweden doun into the beerd.
14 And
Achis seith to his seruauntis, Han &yogh;e
seen a woode man? whi han &yogh;e brou&yogh;t
hym to me? whether faylen to &yogh;ou woode
men? whi han &yogh;e brou&yogh;t hym yn, that
he wexe woode, me present? Letith hym
goon hens, lest he goo into myn hows.
