1   And He went another time into a synagogue, where there was a man that had a withered hand: 2   and they watched Him, whether He would heal him on the sabbath-day, that they might accuse Him. 3   And He said to the man, that had the withered hand, Rise up into the midst: 4    ^note then saith He to them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? but they ^note were silent. 5   And when He had looked round upon them with indignation, being grieved at the hardness of their hearts, He saith to the man, Stretch out thine hand: and he stretched it out, and his hand was ^note made as sound as the other. 6   And the pharisees went out, and immediately took counsel with the Herodians against Him, how to destroy Him: 7    ^note but Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea.

8   And a great multitude from Galilee followed Him, and from Judea, and from Jerusalem, and from Idumea, and from beyond Jordan; and those about Tyre and Sidon, a great ^note number, hearing how great things He did, came unto Him. ^note 9   Therefore He spake to his disciples, that there might be a small vessel attending Him, because of the multitude, least they should throng Him: for He had healed many, 10   so that whoever had any ^note maladies, crouded upon Him to touch Him. 11   And impure spirits, when they saw Him, fell down before Him, and cried out, saying, Thou art the Son of God: 12    ^note but He strictly charged them not to make Him known.

13    ^noteThen going up into a mountain, He calleth for ^note such as He saw fit, and they came to Him: 14   and He appointed twelve to be with Him, and that He might send them forth to preach the gospel, 15   and to have power to heal diseases, and to cast out demons; 16    ^note even Simon, whom He surnamed Peter, 17   and James the Son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James, (and He surnamed them Boanerges, which is to say, Sons of thunder,) and Andrew, 18   and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alpheus, and Thaddeus, 19   and Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, even him who betrayed Him. 20   And they ^note went into a house, and the multitude ^note came together again, so that they could not so much as eat ^note. 21   And when his ^note friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on Him; for they said ^note He ^note spends Himself too much.

22   And the scribes that came down from Jerusalem said, He is ^note in league with Beelzebub, and casts out demons by the help of the prince of demons. ^note 23   So He called them to Him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? ^note 24   If a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand: 25   and if a family be divided against itself, that family cannot stand: and if Satan oppose himself and be divided, 26   he cannot stand, but his kingdom ^note is at an end. 27   No one can enter into the house of a strong man, and plunder his goods;

unless he first bind the strong man, and then he ^note may pillage his house. 28   Verily I tell you, that all sins shall be forgiven to the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith they may blaspheme: 29   but whosoever blasphemeth against the holy Ghost never hath forgiveness, but is liable to eternal damnation: 30   for they said, He ^note hath an impure spirit.

31   So his brethren and his mother came, and standing without sent to Him to call Him to them: 32   and there was a multitude sitting about Him, and they said to Him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren are without inquiring for thee. 33   And He answered them, and said, Who is my mother, or my brethren? 34   And looking round ^note on those that sat about Him, He said, Behold my mother, and my brethren: 35   for whosoever doth the will of God, he is to me as my brother, ^note my sister, and mother.
