Note return to page 1 Worsdale's adaptation, cashing-in on the vogue for ballad opera started by Gay's BEGGAR'S OPERA in 1728, is essentially a prose abbreviation of Lacy's earlier version SAUNY THE SCOTT, supplied with twenty-three new songs. It ran for three performances in its original Drury Lane production in 1735, and then achieved another two in a revival at Covent Garden in 1750.

Note return to page 2 The Reader is desired to take Notice, That AIR V. Altho' I am a Country Lass, in Page 14. is to be left out; it being plac'd there by Mistake.
