¶ The .iiij. Chapter. ¶ The offyces of the Leuytes, euery one after the stocke that he came of.

A   And the Lorde spake vnto Moses and Aaron, and bad them take the summe of the chyldr&ebar; of Cahath from among þe; sonnes of Leui, in their kynredes and houses of their fathers, from .xxx. yere ∧ aboue vntyl fifty, al that were able to warre for to do the worke in the tabernacle of wytnesse. Thys shalbe the offyce of the chyldren of Kahath in the tabernacle of wytnesse whiche is moost holy. And when the hoste remoueth, Aaron and his sonnes shal come ∧ take doune the vayle, and couer the arcke of wytnesse there wyth, ∧ shall put theron a coueryng of taxus skynnes, ∧ shal spreide a cloth that is altogether of iacyncte aboue all, and put the staues therof in. And vpon the shewe table, they shal spreide abrode a cloth of iacincte, and put theron þe; dyshes, spones, flat peces and pottes to poure wyth, ∧ the dayly bread shalbe theron: ∧ they shal spreade vp&obar; them a couerynge of purple, and couer the same wyth a coueryng of taxus skynnes, ∧ put the staues therof in.

And they shal take a cloth of iacincte ∧ couer the candelstyck of lyght ∧ her lampes ∧ her snuffers, and fyre p&abar;nes, and al her oyle vessels which they occupye aboute it, ∧ shal put vpon her ∧ vpon all her instrumentes, a coueryng of taxus skynnes, and put it vpon staues. And vpon the golden alter they shall sprede a cloth of Iacyncte, and put on her staues. And they shall take all the thynges whych they occupye to minystre &wt; in the holy place, ∧ put a cloth of Iacyncte vp&obar; them and couer them wyth a couerynge of taxus skynnes and put them on staues. And they shall take awaye the asshes out of the alter, B    and spreyde a scarlet clothe theron: and put aboute it, the fyre pannes, the flesh hokes, the shouels, the basens ∧ all that belongeth vnto the alter, and they shal sprede vpon it a couerynge of taxus skynnes, ∧ put on the staues of it. And when Aaron and his sonnes haue made an ende of coueryng þe; sanctuary ∧ al the thinges of the sanctuarye, agaynst þt; the hoste remoue, then the sonnes of Cahath shall come in for to beare, ∧ so let them not touche þe; sanctuary least they dye. And thys is þe; charge of the sonnes of Cahath in þe; tabernacle of wytnesse. And Eleazar the sonne of Aaron the preast, shall haue the charge to prepare oyle for the lyghtes ∧ swete incens, ∧ the dayly meatoffrynge ∧ the anoyntynge oyle, and the ouersyghte of all the dwellyng and of all that therin is, both ouer the sanctuary and of al that pertayneth therto.

And the Lord spake vnto Moses ∧ Aar&obar; sayinge: destroy not the trybe of the kynredes of the Cahathites, from among the Leuites. But thus do vnto them that they may lyue and not dye, when they go vnto the moost holy place. Aaron and hys sonnes shal go in and put them euery man vnto his seruyce and vnto hys burthen. But let them not go in to se when they couer the sanctuarye, lest they dye.

C   And the Lord spake vnto Moses saying: Take the summe of the chyldren of Gerson in the houses of their fathers and in theyr kynredes: from .xxx. yere and aboue, vntyll l. all that are able to goo forth in warre, for to do seruyce in the tabernacle of wytnesse. And thys is the seruyce of the kynred of the Gersonites, to serue and to beare. They shal beare the curtaynes of the dwellyng ∧ the rouffe of the tabernacle of wytnesse and hys couerynge and the couerynge of taxus skynnes that is an hye aboue vpon it, and þe; hangynge of the dore of the tabernacle of

The offyce wytnesse: and the hangyng of the court and the hangynge of the gate of the court that is round about the dwellyng and the altare, ∧ the cordes of them, and al the instrumentes that serue vnto them and al that is made for them. And at the mouth of Aar&obar; and his sonnes, shall all the seruyce of the chyldren of the Gersonites be done, in al their charges, and in all theyr seruyce, ∧ ye shall appoynte them vnto all theyr charges, that they shal wayte vpon. And thys is the seruyce of the kynred of the chyldren of the Gersonites in the tabernacle of wytnesse, and their wayte shalbe in the hand of Ithamar the sonne of Aaron the preast.

And thou shalt nombre the sonnes of Merari in their kynredes and in the houses of their fathers, from .xxx. yeres and aboue vnto .l. All that is able to go forth in warre, to do the seruyce of the tabernacle of wytnesse. And thys is the charge that they must wayte vppon in all that they must serue in the tabernacle of wytnesse. The bordes of the dwellynge, and the barres, pyllers, and sokettes therof, and the pyllers of the court round about, and their sokettes, pynnes and cordes, wyth al that pertayneth and serueth vnto them. D   And by name ye shal reaken the thynges that they must wayte vp&obar; to beare. This is the seruyce of the kynredes of the sonnes of Merari in al theyr seruyce in the tabernacle of witnesse by þe; h&abar;d of Ithamar the sonne of Aaron the preast.

And Moses and Aaron and the Princes of the multitude nombred the sonnes of the Cahathites in their kynredes and houses of theyr fathers, from .xxx. yere and aboue vnto fyftie, al that were able to go forth in the hoste and to do seruyce in the tabernacle of witnesse. And the nombre of th&ebar; in theyr kynredes were two thousande, seuen hundred and .l. These are the nombres of the kynredes of the Cahathytes, of al that dyd seruice in the tabernacle of wytnesse, which Moses and Aaron dyd nombre at the commaundement of the Lord by the hand of Moses.

And the sonnes of Gerson were nombred in theyr kynredes and in the houses of theyr fathers, from .xxx. yere vp vnto fyftye, all that were able to go forth in the hoste for to do seruyce in the tabernacle of wytnesse. And the nombre of them in theyr kynredes, and in the houses of theyr fathers, was two thousand syxe hundred and .xxx. Thys is the nombre of the kynredes of the sonnes of Gerson, of all that dyd seruyce in the tabernacle of wytnesse, whyche Moses and Aar&obar; dyd nombre at the commaundement of the Lorde.

And the kynredes of the sonnes of Merari were nombred in theyr kynredes and in þe; houses of theyr fathers, fr&obar; .xxx. yere vp vnto fyftye: all that were able to go forth wyth the host, to do seruice in þe; tabernacle of wytnesse. And the nombre of them was in theyr kynredes, thre thousande and two hundred. Thys is the nombre of the kynredes of the sonnes of Merari, whyche Moses and Aaron nombred at the byddynge of the Lorde, by the hande of Moses.

The whole summe which Moses, Aaron and the Lordes of Israell nombred amonge the Leuites in their kynredes ∧ housholdes of their fathers, from .xxx. yere vp vnto .l. euery man to do hys offyce and seruyce and to beare his burth&ebar; in the tabernacle of wytnesse: was .viij. thousande, fyue hundred and lxxx. whych they nombred at the commaundement of the Lorde by the hande of Moses euery man vnto hys seruyce and burthen: as the Lord commaunded Moses.
