&rhand; The .xlviii. Chapter. Te prayse of, Eliah, Helizeus, Hezekiah, ∧ Esaye.

A    noteThen stod vp Eliah the prophet as a fyre, and hys worde brente like a creshet, He brought an h&obar;ger vpon th&ebar; and in hys zele he made them few in number. For they myght not awaye with the comaundementes of the Lorde. Thorowe the worde of the Lord he shut the heauen, note and thre tymes broughte he the fyre downe. Thus became Eliah honorable in hys wonderous deedes. Who maye make hys booste to be like hym? One that was dead raysed he vp from death and in the word of the Hyest he brought him out of the graue agayne. noteHe cast downe Kinges and destroyed them, and the honorable from their seate. Vpon the mounte Syna he herd the punyshment, ∧ vp&obar; Horeb the iudgement of the vengeaunce. noteHe prophecyed recompensyng vnto kinges, and ordeined prophetes after hym. He was taken in the storm of fyre in a charet of horsses of the Lorde. He was ordeyned in the reprouynges in tyme to pacyfye the wrathe, to turne the hertes of the fathers vnto the chyldren, and to sette vp the trybes of Iacob agayne. Blessed were they that sawe the, and were garnyshed in loue: B   for we lyue in lyfe.

Eliah was couered in the storme, but Heliseus was fylled with his mouth. While he lyued he was afrayed of no prynce, and no man might ouer come hym. There could no worde disceaue him, ∧ after his death hys body prophecyed. He did wonders in his life, ∧ in death were hys workes maruelous. For all thys, the people amended not, neyther departed they from their synnes: tyl they were caryed awaye prisoners out of the lande, ∧ were scattered abrode in al countrees, so that of them there remayned but a very litle people, and a prynce vnto the house of Dauyd. How be it some of them dyd ryght, and some heaped vp vngodlynes.

C    noteHezekiah made hys citie stronge, c&obar;ueied water into it, dygged thorow the stony rocke with yron, ∧ made vp a well by þe; water side In hys tyme came Sennaheryb vp, and sent Rabsakeh, lyfte vp hys hande agaynste Syon, ∧ defyed them &wt; greate pryde. Then trimbled their hertes and h&abar;des, so that they sorowed lyke a woman trauaylynge wyth childe. So they called vpon the Lord, which is mercyfull, and lyft vp their handes before him. Immediatly þe; Lorde herde them out of heauen, and delyuered them by the hande of Esay. He smote the hoost of the Assyryans, ∧ his angell destroied them. For Hezekiah had done the thinge that pleased the Lorde) and remayned stedfastly in the waye of Dauyd his father. Whych Esaye was great ∧ faythful in his visi&obar;s. In hys tyme þe; Sunne went backewarde, ∧ he lengthened þe; kynges lyfe.

-- --

Wyth a ryghte spirite prophecyed he, what shuld come to passe at the last: ∧ to suche as were sorowfull in Sion he gaue consolacion wherewith they myghte c&obar;forte them selues for euermore. He shewed thynges, that were for to come and secrete, or euer they came to passe.
