A   Arphaxat the king of the Medes subdued many people vnto hys dominion, and buylded a noble strong citie whiche he called Egbathanis. The walles of it made he of fre stonne, foure squared, seuenty cubites hye, and .xxx. cubites brode. He made towres thereupon of an hundreth cubites hye. But vpon the foure corners euery side was twenty fote brode.
He made the portes in the heygth, like as the towres. This kynge trusted in hys mighty hoost, and in his glorious charettes.

B   So in the twelft yeare of his raygne it happened, that Nabuchodonosor the kynge of the Assyrians (which raygned in the great citie of Niniue) fought agaynst Arphaxat, ∧ ouercame him in the greate felde called Ragan, beside Euphrates and Tigris and Iadason in the felde of Erioth the kynge of the Elikes.

Then was the kyngedome of Nabuchodonosor exalted, and his hert was lifte vp: ∧ he sente vnto all theim that dwelt in Celicia, in Damascus in Libanus, ∧ vnto the Heath&ebar; that dwelt in Carmel and Cedar, C   and to such as dwelt in Galile in the greate felde of Esdrelon, to al them that were in Samaria, and beyonde the water of Iordane vnto Hierusalem and the whole lande of Iesse vnto the mountaynes of Ethiopia. Vnto all these did D   Nabuchodonosor the kynge of the Assyri&abar;s sende messangers. But they all with one c&obar;sent wolde not agre vnto hym, and sente the messangers agayne emptye, and putte theim awaye without honoure. Then Nabuchodonosor the kynge toke indignacion at al those landes, and sware by his trone and by hys kyngdome, that he woulde be auenged of all those countreys.
