Tobias and hys wyfe are sadde for the taryaunce
of their sonne. Raguel sendeth agayne Tobias with
hys wyfe.
A Nowe whyle yonge Tobias
made longe taryeng, by reason
of the mariage, his father was
ful of care ∧ heuines, ∧ thought
what shoulde be the cause, that
my sonne tarieth so long? Or why should he
be kepte so long there? Peraduenture Gabelus
is dead, and no man will geue hym the
money. Thus began he to be very sorowful
he ∧ Anna his wyfe with him, and beg&abar;ne to
wepe both together, because their sonne was
not come agayn vnto th&ebar; at the day appoynted.
As for his mother, she wepte with disc&obar;fortable
teares, ∧ saide: Wo is me, my sonne:
Oh what ayled vs to sende the awaye into a
stra&ubar;ge co&ubar;tre,
B thou lighte of our eyes, thou
stafe of oure age, thou comforte of oure lyfe,
thou hope of our generacion? Seynge all the
thinges þt; we haue are only in the, we should
not haue sent the awaye from vs.
Then Tobias comforted her, and sayde:
holde thy tonge, ∧ be not dyscomforted, oure
sonne is whole and so&ubar;de: the man that we
sent hym withal, is faithful ynough. Neuerthelesse
she myght in no wyse be comforted:
but dayly went out, loked aboute, ∧ wente aboute
all the stretes, wherby she thought he
shoulde come agayn: that (if it were possible)
she myght se hym commyng a farre of.
C But Raguel sayde vnto his sonne in law:
O tarye here, and I shall sende a messenger
vnto thy father Tobias, to tel him that thou
art in good health. Tobias sayde vnto hym:
I am sure, that my father ∧ my mother co&ubar;te
euery daye, and that their hertes are sory.
So when Raguel prayed Tobias wyth
many wordes, ∧ wold in no wyse heare him,
he deliuered Sara vnto him, ∧ the half part
of all his good: in seruauntes ∧ h&abar;dmayd&ebar;s,
in shepe, in Camels, ∧ in kyne, ∧ much money
D ∧ so sent hym awaye from hym with peace
and ioye, and sayde: The holy aungel of the
Lorde be with you in youre iourney, and
bringe you forth safe ∧ sounde, that ye maye
fynde all thinges in good case with youre elders,
∧ that myne eyes may se your chyldren

afore I dye. So the elders embraced their
daughter, kyssed her, ∧ let her go, exhortinge
her to honour her father ∧ mother in law, to
loue her housbande, too rule well her housholde,
to kepe her house is good ordre, and to
shew her selfe fautelesse.
