The death of Moses

1   Then Moses went up from the lowlands of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, eastwards from Jericho, and the Lord showed him the whole land: 2   Gilead as far as Dan; the whole of Naphtali; the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all Judah as far as the western sea; 3   the Negeb and the Plain; the valley of Jericho, the Vale of Palm Trees, as far as Zoar. 4   The Lord said to him, ‘This is the land which I swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that I would give to their descendants. I have let you see it with your own eyes, but you shall not cross over into it.’

5   There in the land of Moab Moses the servant of the Lord died, as the Lord had said. 6   He was buried in a valley in Moab opposite Bethpeor, but to this day no one knows his burial-place. 7   Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died; his sight was not dimmed nor had his vigour failed. note 8   The Israelites wept for Moses in the

The death of Moses lowlands of Moab for thirty days; then the time of mourning for Moses was ended. 9   And Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him, and the Israelites listened to him and did what the Lord had commanded Moses.

10   There has never yet risen in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face: 11   remember all the signs and portents which the Lord sent him to show in Egypt to Pharaoh and all his servants and the whole land; 12   remember the strong hand of Moses and the terrible deeds which he did in the sight of all Israel.
