LETTER LII. HARRINGTON to WORTHY. BOSTON.

She is gone—&longs;he is dead—&longs;he
who was the mo&longs;t charming, the mo&longs;t gentle,
is gone—You may come—you may defire
to behold all that was lovely—but your
eyes will not fee her.

YES! I raved—I was di&longs;tracted—but now
I am calm and di&longs;pa&longs;&longs;ionate—I am &longs;mooth
as the &longs;urface of a lake—I &longs;hall fee her
again.

WHEN our &longs;pirits are di&longs;encumbered of this
load of mortality, and they wing their &longs;light
to the cele&longs;tial regions, &longs;hall we not then know
tho&longs;e who were dear to us in this world?
Shall we not delight in their &longs;ociety, as we
have done in this &longs;tate of exi&longs;tence? Yes—
certainly we &longs;hall—we &longs;hall find them out in
Heaven—there alone is happine&longs;s—there
&longs;hall I meet her—there our love will
not be a crime—Let me indulge this thought—
it gives a momentary joy to my heart—it
removes the dark mi&longs;t that &longs;wims before my
eyes—it re&longs;tores tranquillity; but the more
I reflect on this thought—the more I long to
be there—the more I dete&longs;t this world and
all it contains. I figh to fly away from it.
