For loe, they lye in waite for my soule; the mighty are gathered against

The wickeds furie. me, not for my transgression, nor for my sinne, O Lord.

They runne and prepare themselues without my fault: awake ^note to helpe me, and behold.

Thou therefore, O Lord God of hostes, the God of Israel, awake to visite all the heathen: be not mercifull to any wicked transgressours. Selah.

Behold, they belch out with their mouth: ^note swords are in their lippes; for who, say they, doeth heare?

But thou, O Lord, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt haue all the heathen in derision.

The God of my mercy shall preuent me; God shall let mee see my desire vpon ^note mine enemies.

Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by thy power; and bring them downe, O Lord our shield.

For the sinne of their mouth, and the words of their lips, let them euen be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speake.

Heare my cry, O God, attend vnto my prayer.

From the end of the earth wil I cry vnto thee, when my heart is ouerwhelmed: leade me to the rocke, that is higher then I.

For thou hast bene a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

He onely is my rocke and my saluation: he is my ^note defence, I shall not be greatly moued.

How long wil ye imagine mischiefe against a man? ye shall be slaine all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence.

They onely consult to cast him downe from his excellency, they delight in lies: they blesse with their mouth, but they curse ^note inwardly. Selah.

My soule, wait thou onely vpon God: for my expectation is from him.

Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked: from the insurrection of the workers of iniquitie:

That they may shoote in secret at the perfect: suddenly doe they shoote at him, and feare not.

By terrible things in righteousnesse, wilt thou answere vs, O God of our saluation: who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are a farre off vpon the sea.

Which by his strength setteth fast the mountaines; being girded with power.

Which stilleth the noise of the seas; the noise of their waues, and the tumult of the people.

Come and see the workes of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men.

Come and heare all ye that feare God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soule.

If I regard iniquitie in my heart: the Lord will not heare me.

Deliuer me out of the mire, and let me not sinke: let me bee deliuered from them that hate me, and out of the deepe waters.

Let not the water flood ouerflow me, neither let the deepe swallow mee vp, and let not the pit shut her mouth vpon me.

Heare me, O Lord, for thy louing kindnesse is good: turne vnto mee according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.

Let them be ashamed and confounded that seeke after my soule: let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that desire my hurt.

LXXII. 1 Dauid praying for Solomon, sheweth the goodnesse and glory of his, in type, and in trueth, of Christes kingdome. 18 Hee blesseth God. ¶ A Psalme ^note for Solomon.

Giue the King thy Iudgements, O God, and thy Righteousnesse vnto the Kings sonne.

2   
Hee shall iudge thy people with righteousnesse, and thy poore with iudgement.

3   
The mountaines shal bring peace to the people, and the litle hils, by righteousnesse.

4   
Hee shall iudge the poore of the people, he shall saue the children of the needie, and shall breake in pieces the oppressour.

5   
They shall feare thee as long as the Sunne ∧ Moone indure, throughout all generations.

6   
Hee shall come downe like raine vpon the mowen grasse: as showres that water the earth.

7   
In his dayes shall the righteous flourish: and abundance of peace ^note so long as the Moone endureth.

8   
He shall haue dominion also from sea to sea, and from the riuer, vnto the ends of the earth.

9   
They that dwell in the wildernesse shall bowe before him: and his enemies shall licke the dust.

10   
The kings of Tarshish and of the Isles shall bring presents: the Kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.

11   
Yea, all Kings shall fall downe before him: all nations shall serue him.

12   
For hee shall deliuer the needy when he crieth: the poore also, and him that hath no helper.

13   
He shal spare the poore and needy,

The description of the wicked. and shall saue the soules of the needy.

14   
He shall redeeme their soule from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight.

15   
And he shall liue, and to him ^note shalbe giuen of the gold of Sheba; prayer also shalbe made for him continually, and daily shall he be praised.

16   
There shalbe an handfull of corne in the earth vpon the top of the mountaines; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon, and they of the citie shall flourish like grasse of the earth.

17   
His name ^note shall endure for euer: ^note his name shalbe continued as long as the sunne: and men shalbe blessed in him; all nations shall call him blessed.

Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who only doth wonderous things.

And blessed be his glorious name for euer, and let the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen, and Amen.

^noteTruely God is good to Israel, euen to such as are ^note of a cleane heart.

But as for mee, my feete were almost gone: my steps had well-nigh slipt.

^noteFor I was enuious at the foolish, when I sawe the prosperity of the wicked.

For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is ^note firme.

5   
They are not ^note in trouble as other men: neither are they plagued ^note like other men.

6   
Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chaine: violence couereth them as a garment.

7   
Their eies stand out with fatnes: ^note they haue more then heart could wish.

8   
They are corrupt, and speake wickedly concerning oppression: they speake loftily.

They set their mouth against the heauens; and their tongue walketh through the earth. The description of the wicked.

Therefore his people returne hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

Behold, these are the vngodly: who prosper in the world, they increase in riches.

Uerily I haue cleansed my heart in vaine, and washed my hands in innocencie.

14   
For all the day long haue I bene plagued, and ^note chastened euery morning.

If I say, I will speake thus: behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.

When I thought to know this, ^note it was too painfull for me,

Untill I went into the Sanctuarie of God; then vnderstood I their end.

18   
Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them downe into destruction.

19   
How are they brought into desolation as in a moment? they are vtterly consumed with terrours.

20   
As a dreame when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest thou shalt despise their image.

21   
Thus my heart was greeued, and I was pricked in my reines.

22   
So foolish was I, ^note and ignorant: I was as a beast ^note before thee.

23   
Neuerthelesse I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.

24   
Thou shalt guide me with thy counsell; and afterward receiue me to glory.

25   
Whom haue I in heauen but thee? and there is none vpon earth that I desire besides thee.

26   
My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the ^note strength of my heart, and my portion for euer.

27   
For loe, they that are farre from thee, shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that goe a whoring from thee.

28   
But it is good for me, to drawe neere to God: I haue put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy workes. 552 PSAL. O God, why hast thou cast vs off for euer? why doeth thine anger smoke against the sheepe of thy pasture?

Remember thy Congregation which thou hast purchased of olde: the ^note rod of thine inheritance which thou hast redeemed, this mount Sion, wherein thou hast dwelt.

Lift vp thy feete vnto the perpetuall desolations: euen all that the enemie hath done wickedly in the Sanctuarie.

4   
Thine enemies roare in the midst of thy congregations: they set vp their ensignes for signes.

5   
A man was famous according as he had lifted vp axes vpon the thicke trees.

6   
But now they breake downe the carued worke thereof at once, with axes and hammers.

7   
^noteThey haue cast fire into thy Sanctuary, they haue defiled by casting downe, the dwelling place of thy Nawe to the ground.

They said in their hearts, Let vs ^note destroy them together: they haue burnt vp all the Synagogues of God in the land.
