LENORE.

Hush thy foot-fall, lightly tread,
Passing by a loved one's bed!
Dust hath gathered on her brow,
Silently she sleepeth now!
Sank she unto dreamless rest,
Clasping violets to her breast,
With her forehead pale and fair
'Neath the midnight of her hair.
And the sunshine, wandering by,
Paused a while to see her die; —
Stealing with a silent tread,
Wove a glory round her head.
Angels, bending from the skies,
Gently closed her dimming eyes, —
Kissing then her lips so fair,
Left an Eden smiling there!
Then we laid her down to sleep,
Where the wild-flowers bend and weep;
Earth below, and blue sky o'er,
Sweetly sleeps our own Lenore!
