Note return to page 1 Garrick's adaptation of acts 4 and 5 of THE WINTER'S TALE, first acted at Drury Lane in 1756 and a favourite for the remainder of the eighteenth century, is in some respects influenced by the Macnamara Morgan version with which it originally competed, but adds most of act five, albeit with its action transferred to Sicilia, where Paulina and Hermione have lived in exile, and to which a disguised Leontes is unexpectedly brought by a shipwreck.

Note return to page 2 Mr. Quin had then left the Stage.

Note return to page 3 †The Action of the Winter's Tale, as written by Shakespear, comprehends Sixteen Years.
