Note return to page 1 Garrick's version of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, which condenses the play into a three-act afterpiece, was first performed in 1754, and was an immediate popular success, keeping Shakespeare's play off the stage altogether until 1844 and still enjoying occasional revivals even in the twentieth century.
