Brade gained; but he gained slowly. He had not
asked about Peters since the first day that he spoke,
although he constantly talked of him. At length Mr.
Manson sat down, and tenderly and freely told him
all: that “Peters had ended his life well, and entered
into his rest in Him who gave His life a ransom for
many.” Mrs. Peters was in the room, — looking like her
son. She heard the ords and said, “Yes: he had
ended his life well. She had often feared for him in
the world: now she should be at peace. But she must
look to the boy for whom” —

“I can't stay here, after Peters,” said Brade, trying
to lift himself; “but, if I live, I'll never forget Peters,
and I'll try to do as he said, and help.”

“God give you grace to do it, dear Antony!” said
his aunt.

Mrs. Peters took the boy's hand, and kneeled, with
her face bowed upon the bed, as if she prayed the same
thing in secret.

Mr. Manson, standing, said, —

“Amen!”
