Ex Libris; John A. Spoor [figure description] Bookplate: a central image of a tall, ornate lantern (or lamp), with two flames, one flame on each side; the initials “JAS” appear on the middle part of the lantern, which has a small, shield-like shape as in heraldry images. Near the top of this lantern is a scrolling banner with “Ex” on the portion of the banner to the left side of the lantern, and “Libris” on the portion of the banner on the right side of the lantern. Beneath this is a second scrolling banner, which scrolls across the front of the lantern's stem; this banner has “JOHN A. SPOOR” on it. Two books stand on end on either side of the lantern base, each with its spine facing forward. On each spine of these four books, from left to right, respectively, appear the numbers 1, 9, 2, and 1, apparently for the year 1921. The rectangular border of this bookplate is a dark band on all sides, and within that dark band is a zig-zag pattern of angled and stylized clovers (or four-lobed stars); the corners of this border consist of non-angled, but similarly stylized, clovers (or four-lobed stars).[end figure description]
