Note return to page 1 Brough's superb burlesque, a classic of the genre, minutely
parodies Charles Kean's production of THE WINTER'S TALE, and in
the original 1856 stage production its Leontes performed his role
in a caricature of Kean's manner. Its happy elaboration of the
play's ending includes the return of both Antigonus and the bear,
who have become firm friends in the sixteen years since they were
last seen.
