1 Forsoth in tho dayes, the noumbre of
disciplis wexynge, grucchinge of Greekis
is maad a&yogh;ens Ebrews, for that the widewis
of hem weren dispisid in euery
daies mynistring.
2 Forsoth the twelue
clepinge to gidere the multitude of disciplis,
seiden, It is not euene thing, `vs
to forsake the word of God, and for to
mynistre to bordis.
3 Therfore, bretheren,
biholde &yogh;e men of &yogh;ou, of good witnessing,
`or fame, seuene, ful of the Hooly
Gost and wysdom, whom we schulen ordeyne
on this werk;
4 forsoth we schulen
be bisy to preier and mynisterie, `or
preching, of the word.
5 And the word
pleside to al the multitude; and thei
cheesiden Stheuene, a man ful of feith
and the Hooly Gost, and Philip, and
Protore, and Nichanore, and Tymon, and
Permanam, and Nichol, a gest, `or comelyng,
Antiochene.
6 Thei ordeyneden
these bifore the si&yogh;t of apostlis, and thei
preiynge puttiden the hondis to hem.
7 And the word of the Lord wexide, and
the noumbre of disciplis in Jerusalem was
multiplied moche; also moche cumpanye

of prestis obeieden to the feith.
8 `Stheuene,
ful of grace and strengthe, made
wondris and grete signes in the peple.
9 Forsothe summe risen of the synagoge,
that was clepid of Libertyns, and Cirenensis,
and of men of Alisaundre, and of hem
that weren of Cilice and Asye, disputynge
with Stheuene.
10 And thei my&yogh;ten
not withstonde to the wysdom and spirit,
that spak.
11 Thanne thei priuely senten
men, that schulden seye, hem haue herd
him seyinge wordis of blasphemye into
Moyses and God.
12 And so thei moueden
to gidere the peple, and eldere men, and
scribis; and thei rennynge to gidere rauyscheden
him, and brou&yogh;ten to into the
counceil.
13 And thei ordeyneden false witnessis,
seyinge, This man ceessith not for
to speke wordis a&yogh;ens the hooly place, and
lawe.
14 Forsoth we herden hym seyinge,
For this Jhesus of Nazareth schal distroye
this place, and schal chaunge tradiciouns,
the whiche Moyses bytook to
vs.
15 And alle men that saten in the counceil
biholdinge him, sy&yogh;en the face of him
as the face of an aungel.
