And as Ysaie bifore seide, 29   `No but God hadde left to vs seed, we hadden ben maad as Sodom, and we hadden ben lyk as Gomor. Therfore what schulen we seye? 30    That hethene men that sueden not ri&yogh;twysnesse, han kau&yogh;t ri&yogh;twysnesse, sothli the ri&yogh;twysnesse that is of feith. 31   Forsoth Israel suynge the lawe of ri&yogh;twisnesse, cam not parfytli in to the lawe of ri&yogh;twysnesse. Whi? 32   For not of feith, but as of workis. Sothli thei offendiden `in to the stoon of offencioun, 33   `or spurnynge, as it is writun, Lo! I putte a stoon of offencioun in Syon, and a stoon of sclaundre; and ech that schal bileue in to it, schal not be confoundid, `or schent.
