1   And the Lord spak to Moyses and Aaron, 2   seiynge, Sey &yogh;e to the sones of Yrael, Kepe &yogh;e alle thingis that Y haue writun to &yogh;ow, that I be &yogh;oure God. Thes ben the beestis that &yogh;e shulen eete, of alle that beren lijf on erthe; 3   alle that han the clee dyuydid, and chewith kude, in beestis &yogh;e mowen eete; 4   what euer forsothe chewith kude, and hath clee, but dyuydith it not, as camel and othere, &yogh;e shulen not eete it, and among vnclenne thinges &yogh;e shulen holde it. 5   An vrchon, that chewith kude, and dyuideth not the clee, is vnclene; 6   an haar forsothe, for and he chewith kude, but the clee he dyuidith not; 7   and a sowe, that al be it that sche dyuidith the clee, she chewith not kude. 8   Of the flesh of thes eete &yogh;e not, ne towche &yogh;e the careyns, for thei ben vnclene to &yogh;ow. 9   Thes ben also that ben getun in watris, and it is leeful to eete; 10   alle that han fynnes and scaales, as wel in the see, as in the floodes and stondynge watris, &yogh;e shulen eete; what euer forsothe hath no fynnes and scaales, of hem that in watris ben meued and lyuen, shulen be abhomynable to &yogh;ou, and as cursid; 11    &yogh;e shulen not eete the flesh of hem, and the faln to deeth &yogh;e shulen shonne. 12   Alle that han not fynnes and scaales in watris, shulen be polute. 13   Thes ben that &yogh;e shulen not eete of bryddes, and ben to be shoned of &yogh;ow; an egle, and a griffyn, and a merlyoun; 14   and kijt, and a grijp after his kynde; 15   and alle of crowe kynde into his liknes; 16   `an ostriche, and a ny&yogh;t

is a beest of foure feete, hauynge the nether cheke lap vnmeuable, and meuynge the ouere; 30   a mygal, `that is a beeste born trecherows to bigile, and moost gloterous, a camelion, `that is a beeste varyed in to diuerse colours, after diuerse lokingis, and a stellioun, `that is a werme depeyntid as with sterris, and a lacert, `that is a serpent that is clepid a liserd, and a moldwerp. 31   Alle thes ben vnclene; who toucheth the faln to deth of hem, shal be vnclene vnto the euen; 32   and vpon what thing fal eny thing of the faln to deth of hem, shal be polut, as wel the treen vessel and clothing, as skynnes and heren shertes; and in what thing is werk maad, it shal be wett with water, and thei shulen be polut vnto the euen, and so afterward thei shulen be clensid. 33   A britel vessel forsothe, in the which eny of thes fallith with ynne, shal be polut, and therfor it is to be broke. 34   Al the meete that &yogh;e shulen eete, if water were shed vpon it, shal be vnclene; al meltynge thing, that shal be dronke of eny vessel, shal be vnclene; 35   and what thing of siche thing faln to deeth falle vpon it, shal be vnclene, other forneyses, `or ketels, shulen be destruyed, and shulen be vnclene. 36   The welles forsothe and sisterns, and al the gederyng togidere of watris, shulen be clene. He that touchith the faln to deth of hem, shal be polutid. 37   If it falle vpon the seede, it shal not polute it; 38   if forsothe eny man with water helde vpon the seede, and afterward with the faln to deth were touchid, anone it shal be polutid. 39   If the beeste that is leeful to &yogh;ow to eete were deed, he that touchith the careyn of it shal be vnclene vnto

euen; 40   and he that etith of it eny thing, or berith, shal wasshe his clothes, and he shal be vnclene vnto euen. 41   Al that crepith vpon erthe shal be abhomynable, ne shal be take vnto meet. 42   What thing of foure feete goth vpon the breest, and hath many feete, or bi the erthe is drawun, &yogh;e shulen not eete, for it is abhomynable. 43   Nyl &yogh;e defoule &yogh;oure soules, ne touche eny thing of hem, lest &yogh;e ben vnclene; 44   Y forsothe am the Lord &yogh;oure God; be &yogh;e holy, for Y am hooli. Ne defoule &yogh;e &yogh;oure soules in eny crepynge thing that is meuyd vpon erthe; 45   Y forsothe am the Lord, that hath ladde &yogh;ow fro the loond of Egipte, that Y shulde be to &yogh;ow into God; &yogh;e shulen be holy, for Y am holy. 46   This is the lawe of the berynge lijf, and of foules, and of al lyuynge soule that is meuyd in water, and crepith in erthe; 47   that &yogh;e mowen knowe the differences of clene and of vnclene, and that &yogh;e witen what &yogh;e owen to eete, and what to forsake.
