1 IN the firste made God of nou&yogh;t heuene
and erthe.
2 The erthe forsothe was veyn
with ynne and void, and derknessis weren
vpon the face of the see; and the Spiryt
of God was born vpon the watrys.
3 And
God seide, Be maad li&yogh;t; and maad is
li&yogh;t.
4 And God saw&yogh; li&yogh;t, that it was
good, and deuydid li&yogh;t fro derknessis;
and clepide li&yogh;t,
5 day, and derknessis,
ny&yogh;t. And maad is `euen and moru, o
day.
6 Seide forsothe God, Be maad a firmament
in the myddel of watres, and
dyuyde it watres fro watrys.
7 And God
made the firmament, and dyuydid watris
that weren vndre the firmament fro thes
that weren aboue the fermament; and it
is maad so.
8 And God clepide the firmament,
heuene. And maad is euen and
moru, the secounde day.
9 God forsothe
seide, Gadrid be watris, the whiche ben
vndre heuene, in to o place, and apere
the drie; and maad it is so.
10 And God
clepid the drie, erthe; and the gaderyngis
of watris he clepide, sees. And
God sai&yogh; that it was good;
11 and saith,
Burion the erthe grene erbe and makynge
seed, and appletre makynge fruyt
after his kynd, whos seed ben in hym
silf, vpon the erthe; and maad it is so.
12 And the erthe brou&yogh;te forthe grene erbe
and makynge seed aftre his kynde, and
tree makynge fruyt, and echon hauynge

seed after his special kynde. And God
sai&yogh; that it were good.
13 And maad is
euen and moru, the third day.
14 God forsothe
seide, Be ther maad li&yogh;t &yogh;yuers in
the firmament of heuene, and deuyde thei
dai and ny&yogh;t; and be thei into signes, and
tymes, and daies, and &yogh;eers;
15 and li&yogh;tne
thei in the firmament of heuene, and
li&yogh;tne thei the erthe; and maad it is so.
16 And God made two greet li&yogh;t &yogh;yuerys,
the more li&yogh;t &yogh;yuer that it were bifore to
the day, and the lesse li&yogh;t &yogh;yuer that it
were bifore to the ny&yogh;t, and sterres.
17 And
he putte hem in the firmament of heuene,
that thei shulden &yogh;yue li&yogh;t vpon the erthe,
18 and that thei were bifore to the day and
to the ny&yogh;t, and shulde deuyde li&yogh;t and
derknessis. And God sai&yogh; that it wer
good.
19 And maad is euen and moru, the
ferthe day.
20 God also seide, Watres bryng
thei forthe the crepynge kynd of the
lyuynge soule, and the fleeinge kynde
vpon the erth, vndre the firmament of
heuene.
21 And God made of nou&yogh;t greet
whallis, and al soule lyuyng and mouable,
whom watres brou&yogh;ten forth into ther
special kyndes, and al fleynge thing after
his kynd. And God sai&yogh; that it wer
good;
22 and blisside to hem, seiynge,
Growith, and beth &yogh;e multiplyed, and
fulfillith the watres of the see, and the
briddis be multiplied vpon the erthe.
23 And maad is euen and moru, the fyueth
day.
24 God forsothe seide, Bryng forthe
the erthe soule lyuynge in his kynde,
iumentis, and crepynge thingis, and
beestis of the erthe, after ther special
kyndis; and so it is maad.
25 And God
made beestis of the erthe aftir ther special
kyndes, iumentis, and al the crepynge
thing of the erthe in his kynde.
26 And God sai&yogh; that it wer good; and
seith, Make we man to the ymage and

oure lickenesse, and bifore be he to the
fishis of the see, and to the volatils of
heuene, and to the beestis of the erthe,
and to al creature, and to al the crepynge
thing that moueth in the erthe.
27 And
God made of nou&yogh;t man to the ymage
and his lickenes; to the ymage of God
he made hym; maal and femaal he made
hem of nou&yogh;t.
28 And God blissid to hem,
and seith, Growe &yogh;e, and be &yogh;e multiplied,
and fulfille &yogh;e the erthe, and sogette
&yogh;e it, and haue &yogh;e lordship to the fishis of
the see, and to the volatilis of heuene,
and to alle thingis hauynge soule that
mouen vpon the erthe.
29 And God seyde,
Se! Y haue &yogh;ouun to &yogh;ow al erbe brynginge
forthe seed vpon the erthe, and alle
trees that han in hym silf seed of ther
kynde, that thei ben to &yogh;ow into mete;
30 and to alle thingis hauynge soule of the
erthe, and to al foule of heuene, and to
alle thingis that mouen in the erthe, and
in the which is soule &yogh;yuynge lijf, that
thei haue for to eet; and maad it is so.
31 And God sai&yogh; alle thingis that he made,
and thei weren ful good. And made is
euen and moru, the sixte day.
