1 These thre men laften forsothe to answern
to Job, forthi that ri&yogh;twis he is
seen to them.
2 And Elyu, the sone of
Barachiel Busites, of the kynrede of
Ram, ys wroth, and endeyned; he is wroth
a&yogh;en Job, forthi that he shulde sein hymself
to be ri&yogh;twis befor God.
3 But a&yogh;en
the thre frendis of hym he dedeynede,
forthi that thei hadden not founde a
resounable answere, but onely thei shulden
han condempned Job.
4 Thanne Eliu abod
Job spekende, forthi that eldere thei weren,
that speken.
5 Whan forsothe he hadde
seen, that the thre my&yogh;ten not answern,
he wrathede hugeli.
6 And answerende
Elyu, the sone of Barachiel Busites,
seide, I am &yogh;ungere in time, &yogh;ee forsothe

eldere; therfore the hed leid doun I am
shamed to shewe to &yogh;ou my sentence.
7 I
hopede forsothe that the lengere age
shulde speke, and the multitude of &yogh;eeris
shulde techen wisdam.
8 But as I see,
spirit is in men, and the inbrething of the
Almy&yogh;ti &yogh;iueth vnderstonding.
9 Wise men
ben not longe liuende, ne olde men vnderstonde
dom.
10 Therfore I shal seyn, Hereth
me, and also I shal shewe to &yogh;ou my kunnyng.
11 Forsothe I haue abide &yogh;oure woordis,
herde &yogh;oure prudence, whil &yogh;ee striuen in
&yogh;oure woordis.
12 And whil I wende &yogh;ou
any thing to seyn, I beheeld; but as I
see, ther is not, that mai vnderneme Job,
and answern of &yogh;ou to his woordis;
13 lest
perauenture &yogh;ee seyn, Wee han founde
wisdam; God hath throwen hym afeerr,
and not man.
14 No thing he hath spoke to
me, and I after &yogh;oure woordis shal not
answere to hym.
15 Thei myche dradden,
and answerden no more, and token awey
speche fro themself.
16 Thanne for I haue
abide, and thei speken not, stoden, and
answerden no more;
17 shal and I answere
my partie, and shewen my kunnyng.
18 Forsothe I am ful of woordis, and the
spirit of my wombe artith me.
19 Lo! my
wombe as must withoute venting, that
breketh newe litle win vesselys.
20 I shal
speke, and brethen a&yogh;een a litil; I shal
opene my lippis, and answern.
21 I shal not
taken persone of man, and God to man I
shal not euenen.
22 I wot neuere forsothe
hou longe I shal stonde stille, and if after
a litil take me my Makere.
