Anentus the Ebrues the boc of Judith is rad among thoo scriptures, whos autour is
vnknowen, whos autorite to be strengthid thoo thingus that in to strijf comen lasse
couenable is demed; ner the latere in Caldeis sermoun writen among the stories it
is countid. But for this boc Nycene synod in the noumbre of holi scripturis is rad
to han countid, I assentide to &yogh;oure asking, &yogh;he, to &yogh;oure stedefast asking; and the
occupaciouns leid aside, with whiche hugeli I was artid, to thys thing o litil waking
while I &yogh;af, more sence of sence than woord of woord translatende. Of manye bokis
the most vicious diuersete I kutte awei, onli thoo thingus that with parfit vnderstondinge
I my&yogh;te finde in Caldeis woordis, in Latin I expressede. Taketh Judith, widewe,

of victorie. This forsothe not oneli to wymmen, but also to men, wrthi to ben folewid
he &yogh;af, that, &yogh;eldere of hir chastite, such a vertue &yogh;af to hir, that the vnouercomen of
alle men she ouercam, and the vnouerpassable she ouerpassede.
