Note return to page 1 Davenant's unacknowledged borrowing of Shakespeare and Fletcher's romance, which changes most of the characters' names, was first acted in 1664. It cuts most of the passages now attributed to Shakespeare, and has the humane idea of keeping Arcite alive to marry Emilia and pairing off Palamon with the Gaoler's Daughter.
