Note return to page 1 Crowne's topical version of HENRY VI PART 3, which adds some material drawn from the Cade scenes of HENRY VI PART 2 as well as many new episodes of Crowne's own devising, was performed by the Duke's Company in 1680 as a sermon against the factional conflict then dominating English political life. Its prologue disingenuously claims that the play does not derive from Shakespeare.
