Note return to page 1 Crowne's didactic, violent and topical version of the first three acts of HENRY VI PART 2 was produced by the Duke's Company in 1680 in a bid to follow up the minor success of his earlier version of HENRY VI PART 3, THE MISERY OF CIVIL-WAR; however, its strident anti-Catholic satire offended the Court, and it was banned after only a few performances.
