INTRODUCTION.

THE COMEDY OF ERRORS. This comedy is founded on the same plan as Dryden's play of Amphytrion, or, The two Sosia's, and in our opinion possesses more genuine humour; alteration it undoubtedly wants for representation; but very moderate abilities, with a just knowledge of the stage, might, with care, fit it up to be a very entertaining acting piece, much more likely for life than several frigid sentimental dialogues which, within some years past, have crawled and been pushed into a miserable impoverished existence of one or two seasons. The Comedy of Errors does not very obviously produce a moral, but we may deduce from it, that Providence can happily regulate the most perplexed and unpromising circumstances, and change a temporary apparent evil, into a real and lasting good. Patience and submission are herein justly and properly inculcated.
