Note return to page 1 When Hill's drastically rewritten version of the play was staged at Drury Lane in 1723 it was the only form in which HENRY V had been seen since Shakespeare's own time; it would not be replaced by the original until 1738. Hill's play is largely dominated by the rivalry between a new character, Scroop's niece Harriet (an ex-mistress of the king now assisting her uncle's conspiracy against his life on the eve of Agincourt) and the French princess Catherine.
